Toad Lily
Beautiful arching stems support the lance-shaped leaves that are arranged in a ladder-like fashion, and produce orchid like flowers in late summer. The blooms are white with purple spots. Toad lily’s are very underused and one of our favorites for the shade garden.
Tricrytis performs best in humus-rich, evenly moist soil in partial to full shade. It is very long-lived and easy to grow. It tends to be a late-riser, so don't worry if you don't see this plant coming up with other perennials in early spring. Your patience will be greatly rewarded.
This species spreads to form wide clumps. Division is recommended every 3-4 years in spring to maintain vigor.
Hardy to zones 4-8.
